How to teach maths to a 6 year old
At this age, maths you can touch beats maths on a screen. Five things that work at home:
- Count real things. Rotis onto plates, steps up the stairs, cars of one colour on a walk.
- Share fairly. Split sweets equally between friends and ask what to do with the one left over.
- Read numbers in the world. Bus numbers, house numbers, prices, the date on a calendar.
- Hunt for shapes and patterns. Tiles, rangoli, window grilles: what repeats, and what comes next?
- Compare. Which bottle holds more? Which bag is heavier? Guess first, then check.
Keep it short and playful, and ask “how did you work that out?” more often than “is it right?”.
When they are ready for Tivumo
Tivumo starts at Class 3, usually around age 8, once a child reads short instructions on their own. The first games are gentle:
Have an older child too?
Tivumo covers Classes 3 to 12, with more than 1,000 games.
